Blue Candies Thoughts on The MidWest Greatest Tour

So The Mid West Greatest Tour is finally over and I for one am glad. The prepping and running around and making of clothes gave me a headache. And now that's it over I'm pissed at my self for even participating in the show. As most of you know but for those who don't , the Mid West Greatest Tour was a three state competition between Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky in hair, talent and fashion, You had to pay $75 to be in the competition for a prize of $1000 if you were to win. So this is my experience.

I was so excited, I started making new designs and finding models for the show. Thinking this was a real fashion show type competition. When I first did the Ohio's Greatest Tour which was a preliminary to The Mid West Greatest Tour, there was a mixture of designers. There was Paper Plains which was trash bags made into clothes, there was a girl who made shower curtains into clothes, a couple of Boutiques, And a young girl (age 14 her mom was pissed over something with the show and dropped out)  who designed clothes and Two different groups who wore costumes and over the top weave, Black Satin and Hair Weave Killa. I placed second. I wasn't happy but content and was ready to prepare for the finals in The Mid West Greatest Tour 2013.  The day of the event everything seemed normal at first. We arrived at the Twentieth Century Theater in Cincinnati on Madison Rd and began to prep for the show. They seemed to have strict security in place and order to the flow of things. Check in lines, no one allowed upstairs except designers and models ect... So the show starts and I'm noticing that the forth mystery judge that they were hyping up so much before the show is no where to be seen. Only the three from the flyer showed. But I said okay, it snowed maybe they backed out. The show continues and I'm having a good time. I read the brochure and notice that even though they did not have a Kentucky's Greatest Tour they still had finalist in the show. And I also noticed that some of the designers had dropped from the show completely from Ohio and Kentucky. So I'm enjoying the singers and dancers who perform first when I notice that the designer of Paper Plains is best friends ( or so it seemed) with the judges. So now I'm very skeptical about even still doing the show but I do it anyway, I'm already there and ready. The fashion show portion begins and Its like none I have ever seen. The same two groups in costumes were there and I will say it was creative but oh so so ghetto. One group use a giant chair that fell apart on stage when a model fell through and the other group performed dances as if they were in the club in the hood. And the other designer Paper Plains had four models who just stood on stage in their trash bags then left the stage. Wow! and then there was me. No other boutiques or actual clothes were in the show. I'm new to fashion shows but this is not what I expected. I have added a few pics from the show so you can see for your self. This was not the platform for my designs, but I'm learning. By the way I placed third, Paper Plains second and Black Satin 1st and I heard that they have won in prior years. Seems like they really just wanted costumes instead of actual designs for fashion. Black Satin is the group in costumes pictured below. I will say that Black Satin's models were confident and put on a very entertaining show. But to me it was more entertainment then fashion. The judges sheets said my designs were not original and that anybody could do it even though they were hand made and original. Also I wanted to add that after the show was over my models were heckled and the followed up to our dressing room where they along with our children were verbally and physically assaulted by some audience members. No security then. *My models are in the pic at the bottom, a few could not stay for the pic and Paper Plains is the first pic. I also did not see them award the $1000 prize either.
